an open, active, integrated, multi-racial church community - faithfully founded and Spirit-led.
We believe
in the call of Jesus to love all people with the same unconditional acceptance with which he loves us.
We practice
a radical inclusivity that makes place for all people in a welcome, accepting environment.
Our congregation was founded on Easter Sunday in 1865. St. Mark's is blessed with a rich heritage and a history of leadership both in the city of Charleston and in the Episcopal Church of South Carolina.
Our Motto
We welcome you in the Name of the Lord! To all who feel joy and wish to celebrate, To all who are weary and need to meditate, To all who feel sorrow, pain, loneliness and despair, This church assures you that Almighty God cares. To all who are seeking the Lord Jesus today, St. Mark's doors are open, as you meet God to pray.
Our Mission
The Mission of St Mark’s, an open Episcopal Church that embraces all people, is to live and grow in the Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as to reach out, serve, teach and support the parish family and community.
Our Vision
We believe that God lovingly created all people in his image and therefore calls St Mark’s Parish to minister to His people by:
Being a place of comfort for all people without regard to gender, age, marital status, economic status, sexual orientation, disability, race or cultural heritage.
Being the church of choice for all who feel marginalized, discriminated against, disenfranchised and rejected.
Being a faith community of unconditional acceptance driven by the command of Christ to “love one another as I have loved you.”
So powerfully displaying and radiating the love of Christ that we will be known in the community for the way in which we live out our discipleship being especially mindful of the poor and disadvantaged.
